A review of the mileage rate for petrol and diesel fuel vehicles has resulted in an increase from 72 cents to 73 cents per km for the 2017 year. The increase is primarily due to a slight increase in fixed vehicle costs and higher average fuel costs.
For the first time, mileage rates for hybrid and electric cars have also been set with Hybrids at 73 cents and Electric at 81 cents. Although these types of vehicles typically have lower running costs, these are offset by higher fixed costs.
Business travel remains capped at 5,000 km in an income year. However, there is draft legislation to remove this for the 2018 year.
